In this guide I will discuss some topics revolving around Tomb of Sargeras, some valuable addons, tips and general advice to ensure you are ready to raid when Tomb of Sargeras drops!
Release Dates for Tomb of Sargeras!
- Tuesday, Jun. 20 – Normal and Heroic Difficulties Open
- Tuesday, Jun. 27 – Mythic difficulty and Raid Finder Wing 1
- Tuesday, Jul. 11 – Raid Finder Wing 2
- Tuesday, Jul. 25 – Raid Finder Wing 3
- Tuesday, Aug. 8 – Raid Finder Wing 4
What Gear Should I Have?
- First eight bosses: 885 LFR, 900 Normal, 915 Heroic, 930 Mythic
- Kil'jaeden: 895 LFR, 910 Normal, 925 Heroic, 940 Mythic
A general rule of thumb I personally follow is I try to have at least 10 ilvl lower than the loot received. So in order to effectively do for example Heroic ToS I would recommend trying to achieve ilvl 905+, now this is not a requirement by any means, but if you want to be able to kill the bosses in a timely manner, than your whole raid group should collectively be geared to at least ilvl 905. That being said stats are much more important than your ilvl, so let's start by ensuring you have your stat weights correct.
Visit this site, here.
This will sim all of your characters information and give you a very good estimate of your dps, to use this site correctly you will need a couple of addons.
Download pawn, here.
Download simulationcraft, here.
Okay, let's start by getting all of your characters information so we can run it on raidbots and get your stat weights.
- Log into WoW & load in.
- Type /simc in chat & then copy all of that information.
- Go to raidbots.com/simbot , and then select stat weights.
- There will be two options A & B, paste everything into option B .
- Scroll down and click the big green button “Generate Stat Weights”
- Then copy your “Pawn String”
- Type /pawn in-game, then go select scale at the bottom left.
- Select manual, then import and paste in the “Pawn String”
Now when you hover over items in your inventory, it will tell how big of an upgrade it is for you, now these stat weights change every time you put on a new piece of gear, so you have to re-sim it each piece of gear you equip and redo steps 6-8.
How do I sim a piece of gear without equipping it?
You will need to google search the item id, which is very simple!
- Google the item you’re looking for, for example "The Mantle of Command";
- Click the wowhead.com link, and look in the url.
You’re looking for item=144326 - Next you need to locate where your shoulders are located in the /simc string
- shoulder=,id= , then paste in the desired item’s id after the = (no space) ,id=144326
Using this method will allow you to play around with your items, you can also add gems & enchants to your items by doing the same method, for example - finger1=,id=140897,enchant_id=5429,bonus_id=3517/1808/1492/3528,gem_id=130222
You just have to google the enchant ids using the same exact method before, or you can copy it from items in your /simc string that are already enchanted or socketed.
What should I do to acquire this gear?
We are going to take a look at which places and areas you should be grinding for pieces of gear that will optimize your dps! This is a fairly simple task, but even 1-2 pieces of gear can make or break your totally optimized dps. Currently for the patch of 7.2.5 Mythic Tomb of Sargeras or one weekly Mythic + 15 will be your best source of items. Now after stating the complete obvious, let's talk about what the average player, who can only play maybe 1-3 nights a week has to do to get the best items.
Take Advantage of “looking for raid” - a.k.a LFR
In today’s day in age of World of Warcraft, the “titan forging” and “war forging” system is totally broken that can and should be abused. I am a 10/10 Mythic Nighthold raider, and I still found myself near the end of Nighthold going back to Mythic Emerald Nightmare in hopes of titan forging certain items, which in my opinion is kind of silly (but hey! what are you gonna do?)
Tomb of Sargeras - Raid ReadyJoining an amazing guild!
Now trying to find an amazing guild may sound and looking intimidating at first, but believe me it is not! I’ve been in a Mythic raiding guild for as long as I can remember, at one point we always have Heroic progression, this is when we let our more casual members enjoy some raid nights with us, and trust me when I say this, Mythic raiding guilds are not as serious as they always seem, everyone understands this is a videogame (keyword game!) we all just want to have some fun! Don’t we all just want a couple goofs and gaffs? Now that being said, guilds that are trying to push world first are not the guilds you are looking for, just find that sweet balance between it, I am not saying it will come overnight, but you will find your place eventually!
Trade chat and Premade groups for mythic dungeons
Now ninety percent of the time trade chat is mostly business and another nine percent is politics and trolls, but there is that sweet-sweet one percent looking for guilds, groups and people to just do stuff with. You must take advantage of that! I can not tell you how many times I was not as experienced on one of my alts in the healing or tanking area and was not an exceptionally high ilvl but those groups still took me and let me give it my best shot, you may also get some tips while doing it!
TL;DR (too long didn’t read)
Take advantage that everything WoW offers to you and just hope luck is on your side, guilds and people are a very good resource for helping you get geared and occasionally better at the game. Just have a little faith and try your best to do the highest content your character can achieve!
Raiding and everyday life addons
Now let's take a look at what addons I personally use to optimize my raiding experience and how we can hopefully make your raiding and overall game experience better! Addons are a great resource that anyone can use to make your whole game experience so much smoother!
Here is a picture of what my UI looks like.
If you want achieve a similar look or something totally different! I’ll tell you which addons to get and hopefully give a simple enough rendition to where you can learn how to use them at a faster pace.
All addons will be downloaded from here - https://mods.curse.com/addons/wow
I would really recommend bookmarking this website as you will have to come here if not often, every single patch to update your addons when new releases come out.
All of these addons are not essential for having a fun and good gaming experience, but these will most definitely increase it. You don’t need all or even any of these addons I am about to list off, but I would not recommend any addons I do not feel are essential so use your discretion on which you feel should be downloaded.
First you need to download Winrar - click here.
To correctly download these addons follow these steps.
- Close World of Warcraft
- Open the .zip addon file, top left click Extract To
Click the Extract To button - Locate your World of Warcraft folder
Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > World of Warcraft > Interface > Addons Load World of Warcraft and enjoy.
Please note: this program will only work for Windows users, if you’re a Mac user download this software, click here.
Okay so let’s take a look at these addons.
- Deadly Boss Mods (DBM) - here
Deadly boss mods is most likely one of the most important raiding addons. DBM will tell you what you have to do at boss encounters, whether it be to moving out of something, or getting away from your fellow guildmates it will tell you! Now that being said you still have to understand the boss and know the mechanics to effectively do the fights. Type /dbm helpfor the in-game commands.
- ElvUI - here
EvlUI is an addon that will allow you to set up your UI to either look more clean or simply display what you desire, it is totally customizable and extremely easy to navigate while looking through it. I could write a whole guide on this addon, but I won’t because I feel there is a perfectly good one that is just as good as I would make, which can be found here.
- Skada - here
Skada is a damage meter, it will display not only your DPS but it will also display your whole raids damage, you can also set up multiple windows to show healing, dispel, interruptions and much more! I would recommend going toin-game interface > addons > skada > general > check the box “always show self” This will allow you to see your dps/healing at all times even if you are not in the top number you have showing with your skada window. I only have mine show the top eight for healing/damage, I personally have two windows.
- Zygor Guides Viewer - here
Now Zygor Guides Viewer is probably my favorite addon, but it cost money which is against the terms and service of world of warcraft so a lot of people! On YouTube give it out for free, the download is the top comment of that video. Zygor guides is extremely new user friendly so no explanation needed.

How do I be a good raid member?
Most people think a good raid only comes from the raid leader being an exceptional player which is most of the time not the only case, only have a good raid leader does make things super smooth! Let’s talk about what you can do to be a better raid member and help out with making the public raid go smoother or have faster progression.
Come prepared and on time!
Now this one may seem like a complete no brainer, but most guild downfalls are because vital members are always late! I can promise you, if you are trying to earn that core raiding spot showing up on time and knowing the fights and not dying will get you that spot in no time, when I first joined my guild I was that person who was ready and knew my shit, they would sit out veteran members of the guild for me. But remember once you get that spot showing up on time is still super important for raiding progression! So make sure you find a guild that raid times work for you! If the guild you want to join does not fit with your time schedule find a new one! Don’t adjust your schedule to their raid times or you will be miserable! Also make sure you have your correct enchants, food, flask and you have watched the video guides of the boss fights and practiced it on an easier difficulty.
Offer everything your character offers!
Secondly use all your professions and abilities to your advantage, certain guilds may only need one class to round out their core raiding group and progress even faster, for example a Warlock is a must in every guild so if a guild doesn’t have a Warlock they might take you for that sole purpose alone.
Have fun and be yourself!
Now those five words I just wrote may be the cheesiest in this whole guide but it is very true, if you can release some of the tension in the voice chat after endless wipes or when the raid leader explodes of rage they will keep you around, I can not tell you how many nights we have had endless wipes and everyone is getting frustrated with themselves, but someone cracks just that perfect joke or someone says just the right thing to calm everyone down to make the next hour of raiding all the worthwhile.
These are all the tips I can offer you guys for becoming raid ready for Tomb of Sargeras, I hope you all enjoyed the read and it was interesting along the way! I hope you can apply all these tips in one way or another and enjoy World of Warcraft as much as I do! Now remember everything, even World of Warcraft should be taken in moderation, WoW is a really easy game to get addicted to and also a really easy game to get burnt out from if you let it. So watch yourself and have fun! - Tanner
